Not Just the Levees Broke Documentary

Spike Lee directed a documentary about Hurricane Katrina called Not Just the Levees Broke. Every person that was interviewed is shown holding an empty picture frame at the end of this documentary. This summer you might want your teens to hold up an empty frame and take a picture of them for a display! I will keep looking for a video clip of the credits, but until then you can view this clip of the documentary.

What's Your New Name?

The following is excerpted from a children's book, Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot Professor Poopypants, by Dav Pilkey, in which the evil Professor forces everyone to assume new names... So, follow these three simple steps to find out your name! This is an internet forward, but is also located in the Captain Underpants books.

1. Use the third letter of your first name to determine your New first name:

a = snickle
b = doombah
c = goober
d = cheesey
e = crusty
f = greasy
g = dumbo
h = farcus
i = dorky
j = doofus
k = funky
l = boobie
m = sleezy
n = sloopy
o = fluffy
p = stinky
q = slimy
r = dorfus
s = snooty
t = tootsie
u = dipsy
v = sneezy
w = liver
x = skippy
y = dinky
z = zippy

2. Use the second letter of your last name to determine the first half of your new last name:

a = dippin
b = feather
c = batty
d = burger
e = chicken
f = barffy
g = lizard
h = waffle
i = farkle
j = monkey
k = flippin
l = fricken
m = bubble
n = rhino
o = potty
p = hamster
q = buckle
r = gizzard
s = lickin
t = snickle
u = chuckle
v = pickle
w = hubble
x = dingle
y = gorilla
z = girdle

3. Use the third letter of your last name to determine the second half of your new last name:
a = butt
b = boob
c = face
d = nose
e = hump
f = breath
g = pants
h = shorts
i = lips
j = honker
k = head
l = tush
m = chunks
n = dunkin
o = brains
p = biscuits
q = toes
r = doodle
s = fanny
t = sniffer
u = sprinkles
v = frack
w = squirt
x = humperdinck
y = hiney
z = juice

Thus, for example, my new name is Tootsie PottyPants!

POLL: HOW DO YOU USE THE MANUAL BIBLIOGRAPHY?

I was a presenter for the Iowa Children's Summer Reading Program 2007 "Get a Clue @ Your Library" Workshops. I read all of the books included in the bibliography for that theme. I felt it was important to know the content of each book and be able to book talk them as needed during the presentations.

It hit me as I was preparing for the Teen Presentations: "Hmmm... how do the majority of our Young Adult Librarians use the bibliography? Are you displaying the titles throughout the program, providing suggested titles on bookmarks, or using the book list as a resource for collection development? Please take a moment to fill out the poll on the left side of the blog! Your imput is valuable and may impact future SRP manuals!
